Your Guide to Trat Airport – TDX
Trat Airport, (IATA code TDX) is the airport used by visitors who prefer to fly to Koh Chang, Koh Kood or Koh Mak rather than travel all the way by road from Bangkok.
It is located in Trat province and is approximately 17Km from Ao Thammachat (for ferries to Koh Chang ); 22Km from Centerpoint pier (for ferries to Koh Chang); 25km from Krom Luang pier (for speedboats to Koh Mak) and 60Km from Laem Sok – where the passenger boats to Koh Kood depart.
The town of Trat itself is around 30 minutes drive away, although very few people stay in the town. Most passengers are on their way to one of the outlying islands.
The airport itself is one of the smallest in Thailand and, in keeping with Bangkok Airways’ two other private airports at Samui and Sukhothai, it features a tropical, open plan design and a very laid back, informal atmosphere. With just four arrivals and departures per day, it’s also possibly the quietest commercial airport in Thailand.

There are a few basic facilities at the airport – a car park, small cafe, ATM, transfer desk and toilets. Free snacks and drinks are provided for passengers waiting for their flight to Bangkok. Free wifi is also available in the departure area.
In December 2022 it was confirmed that the airport will be expanded. This was in response to requests from Chinese airlines who want to fly direct to Trat. The runway is being increased to 2,100 metres which will allow larger planes such as Boeing B737 and Airbus A320 to use it. In addition a new terminal building and passenger facilities will be constructed at the western end of the runway.
You can see the work that has already begun – either overhead from the plane or on the left side of the road when you leave Trat Airport and head towards Koh Chang. A huge area of land south of the current runway has already been cleared and levelled in preparation. Construction of the runway and buildings has yet to begin. Originally this was planned to be completed by 2027. But that may well be pushed back to 2028 or later.
Airlines Using Trat Airport
Trat Airport is privately owned by Bangkok Airways. This airline is a regular winner of awards for being one of the best small airlines in South East Asia. They fly to many domestic and international locations from their base at Suvaranbhumi Airport.
They operate four flights per day to Trat by 70 seater, turbo-prop ATR 72 planes. These twin engine Franco-Italian planes are used in over 60 countries and are ideal for short haul flights. Flying time between Bangkok and Trat is timetabled as being an hour, but in reality it is closer to a 40 minute ‘sky hop’.
(Note that budget airlines do not use this airport. The nearest AirAsia or Nok Air fly to is Utapao Airport near Pattaya. There are bus services from Utapao to Koh Chang but it isn’t as convenient or quick as flying into Trat. )
Note that during the low season ( April to October ) the early morning flights, PG301/PG302 don’t operate. You can check the status of recent flights here: Trat Airport Flight Status It shows flight departure and arrival times for the past few days as well as real time information for today’s flights.
Trat Airport Improvements
Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited is proceeding with a major upgrade of Trat Airport with a budget of over 400 million Baht. Construction work should be completed by late 2026.
The main focus is expanding the runway from 1,800 meters to 2,000 meters in length. The project involves also involves constructing a 100-meter wide gate to accommodate medium-sized jet aircraft and expanding the passenger terminal to increase its capacity to a maximum of 250,000 passengers per year.
The longer runway will allow the airport to be used by medium-sized jet aircraft such as the Airbus A320, A319, and Boeing 737.
More flights should be planned for the coming 2026-27 high season.

However, during High Season, it’s hard to find tickets for under 2,500 Baht one way. And during Peak Season prices can rise to well over 4,000 Baht one way. Book early if you want to fly during high season and look for the ‘Web Promotion’ prices. These are the cheapest tickets but are non-refundable.
Connecting Flights
All flights to or from Trat go to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, this makes it easy to connect to either international flights or certain domestic flights which use Suvarnabhumi. ( There is a free shuttle bus service between Suvarnabhumi and Don Meaung for people who connecting flights at a different airport. )
Since 2015 it has been possible to clear Customs and Immigration at Trat Airport. The main benefit of this is that is allows passengers on either Bangkok Airways or their partner airlines to check in baggage through to their final destination and also clear Immigration when arriving or departing Trat.
More details of the through check-in process, including luggage, boarding pass restrictions and partner airlines can be found here.

Bangkok Airways Baggage Allowance
Please note that Bangkok Airway’s allowances may be different to those on your flight from home to Bangkok.
The allowance for passengers on Bangkok Airways’ flights in general is as follows:
– 20 kilos per adult or child in Economy Class
– 30 kilos for passengers Business Class passengers
– 10 kilos per infant in Economy or Business Class
However, all seating on flights to/from Trat is in Economy class. This is important to note if you are planning on using your international allowance from a Business class flight to Thailand. You’ll have to pay excess or store some luggage in Bangkok.
Carry on bags on flights to Trat are limited to a bag with maximum dimensions of 50 x 36 x 23 centimeters and weight of 5kg. Which is smaller and a couple of kilos lighter than most airlines international allowance. ( This limit isn’t enforced during the low season, when many flights operate with low seat occupancy but is when flights are busy. )
In the past it was possible to increase your baggage allowance for free by simply signing up for Bangkok Airways ‘Flyer Bonus‘ frequent flyer program. This gave an extra 10kg. However, since 2022 this hasn’t been possible and the extra allowance is only possible for ‘Premier’ members of the frequent flyer program.
Trat Airport Layout

Transport to Koh Chang, Koh Kood and Koh Mak
Trat is a very small airport and so has limited transport options. However there is a shared minibus service from the airport to hotels on Koh Chang and also to Krom Luang pier (for boats to Koh Mak) and Laem Sok pier for boats to Koh Kood.
These are run by Krungthep Limousine and Koh Chang transport. Tickets can be bought on arrival in Trat.
The one way price for the Krungthep Limousine tickets which can be bought on arrival is 800 Baht per person to a hotel on Koh Chang.
Koh Chang Transport, a locally owned minibus company, charge 650 Baht per person for the same service, but tickets can only be bought online or online on the 12go.com site. Not at the airport.
Krungthep Limousine also offer cars for rent, but for most visitors renting a vehicle is probably best left until you’re on the island and you know how long you might want to use one for. It will also be cheaper to rent one on the island.
Public Transport
The only public transport at the airport are songtaews (shared pick up truck taxis) which will take passengers to the mainland ferry pier.
Drivers will be waiting near the Baggage Claim exit and will have a sign advertising the service. The price to the ferry pier is 280 Baht / person which also includes the ferry ticket.
When you reach Koh Chang you can take another songtaew to your hotel. This will be from 50 to 200 Baht / person, depending on where you are staying.
For more comfort or to save money, private transfers can be easily arranged in advance on this website or others.
The vehicle ferries from the mainland to Koh Chang run from early morning until 18:30. Ferries run daily throughout the year and it is extremely rare for a sailing to be cancelled. That only happens in cases of extreme weather, maybe once a year.
Transport from Trat Airport to Koh Chang
There are both shared minibus services and private transfers from Trat Airport to hotels on Koh Chang. There aren’t any local taxis or ride hailing vehicles ( Grab / Uber / Bolt etc don’t operate in this part of Thailand yet.).
Passengers can either arrange transport when they land in Trat, in advance online, through a local tour agent or ask their hotel to send a driver to meet them.
The shared minibus is the most economical option. This drops passengers off at all hotels and resorts on the west coast of the island. However, it doesn’t go along the sparsely populated east coast. If you are staying on the east of the island anywhere to the south of Amber Sands or Serenity Resort then you will have to arrange for your hotel to pick you up from the ferry pier. Or, take a private transfer.
Driving time from the airport to the mainland pier is around 20 minutes. Then you have a 30 minute ferry crossing. Ferries depart every 45 minute or more frequently if it is busy. Once on Koh Chang it’s anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour drive, depending on which beach you are staying on.
Ticket prices are 650 Baht one way. These can be booked online in advance easily. ( Or 850 Baht per person if bought at the airport ticket counter.)
Private transfers can also be arranged at the airport, although it will save a significant amount of money by booking in advance.
Figure on 1,900 – 2,100 Baht for a car and driver for two passengers to a resort on Koh Chang. Or from 2,500 – 3,100 Baht for a minibus for up to 7 passengers.
If you are staying on the east coast then you’ll either have to book a private transfer, or take the shared minibus and get dropped off at the pier on Koh Chang. Then arrange with your hotel for them to send a driver to pick you up.

Transport from Trat Airport to Laem Ngop and Koh Mak
There are speedboats at regular intervals from Krom Luang pier, near the village of Laem Ngop to Koh Mak. The first speedboat of the day is at 10:30, so there’s no problem for passengers on PG301 to connect with this boat or one at 11:30 or 12:30.
Passengers on the lunchtime flight, PG305, can take a speedboat to Koh Mak at 15:00 or 16:00.However, anyone taking the evening flight will have to wait until the following morning to get to Koh Mak.
The shared minibus service will drop passengers off at the pier. Ticket price is 500 Baht.
A private transfer by car can easily be pre-booked for 1,500 Baht. Or from 2,300 – 2,600 Baht for a minibus which can seat a maximum of 8 passengers.
For anyone needing to extend a visa, Trat immigration office is also located in Laem Ngop within easy reach of the pier. ( If you need to do this whilst on Koh Chang, there is also an immigration office in Klong Prao, opposite Flora I-Talay Resort. )
More Details of Shared Minibus and Private Transfers to Krom Luang pier
Transport from Trat Airport to Laem Sok pier and Koh Kood
If you plan on getting to Koh Kood the same day then you’ll need to be on flight PG301 or 305. Passengers on PG301 will be able to catch the 10:45 Boonsiri Ferry to Koh Kood. Or failing that, the Koh Kood Express or Koh Kood Princess at 12:00 – 12:30. Passengers on PG305 can take either the Boonsiri Ferry at 14:40 or Seudamgo Ferry at 16:00
Unless you are travelling over New Year, Thai New Year or long weekend holidays there is no need to buy tickets in advance. But as of 2024, boat companies also offer combo – bus and boat – tickets between Trat Airp[ort and hotels on Koh Kood. These can be booked online via the boat company websites.
A private transfer by car from Trat Airport to Laem Sok pier, for two passengers, is around 1,500 Baht. Or from 1,800 – 2,100 Baht for a Toyota Commuter minibus which can seat a maximum of 7 passengers.

Car Hire
A car hire service is available at the airport, which is ideal for independent travelers visiting the Koh Chang. It is an easy drive to the mainland ferry pier and then, once on Koh Chang, the roads are in good condition. Care is needed on some hills and also when driving at night, as there are very few streetlights.
Daily (24 Hour) rental rates are from 1,500 Baht for a small automatic car. Although if you don’t need a car for all your time on the island, it will be cheaper to rent whilst on the island.
Passengers with Disabilities
Bangkok Airways use relatively small ATR turboprop planes. These don’t use the skybridges at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Access is via narrow steps at the rear of the plane. So getting on and off the plane can be tricky for anyone with anyone requiring assistance to use steps.
However, ground staff are on hand at both airports to provide assistance to anyone getting on and off a plane. For wheelchair bound passengers this means moving to a narrow, plane-friendly wheelchair in order to get on and off the plane. Staff will lift or lower the wheelchair in and out of the plane down the steep steps.
Trat Airport is also fully wheelchair accessible by ramps and disabled toilet facilities are available.

Hi, I have a flight ticket from Trat to Bangkok (PG302) for January 20, 2027, at 9:40 AM. I am staying at Klong Prao Beach on Koh Chang. How can I ensure I arrive at the airport on time that morning? 12go.Asia recommends booking a transfer that departs five hours before the flight, but they don’t offer such an option. I know the first ferry from Koh Chang to the mainland leaves at 6:30 AM.
Anna-Maija
You can book a ticket for the Koh Chang Transport minibus that serves passengers on flight PG302 on 12go.com. It picks up from hotels on Klong Prao beach around 06:00am . Or wait until you are on the island and buy a ticket at your hotel or any tour agent nearby. They have been running services for many years and are reliable.
Thank you! So, can I trust that the transport will be at the airport on time? Does the minibus go onto the ferry and continue to the airport after the crossing, or does it drop passengers off at Ao Sapparot Pier, with another vehicle picking them up on the mainland at Ao Thammachat Pier?
The minibus goes on the ferry. You don’t have to change vehicles.
Bangkok Airways have been running early morning flights from Trat for 20 years.
If you search online you won’t find reports from passengers who missed their flight because they took a shared minibus from Koh Chang to the airport. Don’t worry. :-)
Hey,
I am departing from Trat to BKK on Monday at 9:40. I stay in Koh Chang (Pearl Beach) and would like to know how to get to the airport time efficiently. I have talked to a private transfer company but they offered a pick up at 6:15 for a shared minivan or 6:45 for a private one and I think this is very early. I am thinking about getting to the pier in Koh Chang with a local taxi, then go by boat or ferry myself and then take another taxi to the airport. Now, the question I have is if I will be able to find a Taxi at the Pier in Trat. I just want to save some time and don’t sit at the airport for 2 hours.
Kind regards,
Franz
You can take a shared pick up taxi from Ao Thamachat pier on the mainland to Trat Airport. You will see the taxis in the parking area behind the restaurant / tour agents offices at the pier.
Sawasdee krap! I’ve noticed that if you will arrive with PG305 at 1:45 you still would make it to the 4pm ferry to Koh Kood. Is it necessary to pre-book for the high season to secure a spot?
It is best to book a boat ticket in advance, especially if you are travelling at a busy time of year.
my flight out of trat is at 1pm. how would you recommend leaving koh chang to get there? what transport ect to make it on time? i know it’s a small airport but im not sure how long i’ll need there
The easiest way is to buy a ticket for a shared minibus that would pick you up from your hotel and drop you off at the airport.
Or a private transfer by car.
Or take a pick up truck taxi from your hotel to the ferry pier and another pick up truck taxi from the mainland pier to your hotel.
Depending on how you plan on travelling and where you are staying on Koh Chang you should leave around 09:00 – 10:00
my flight is the pg307 arriving at 17:15. what transport is best to get me to koh chang on the same day? i’m worried the time is too tight to make the last ferry.
You won’t have any problem getting to Koh Chang the same evening, regardless of which transport option you take from the airport – pick up truck taxi, shared minibus or private transfer. It’s only 15 to 20 minutes drive to the pier.
And if the flight is delayed the last ferry always waits for passengers coming from Trat Airport.
thank you!
do you happen to know if the minibus on 12go will wait for me to collect bags ect as it says it leaves at 5:15? and does it include the ferry ticket?
your website is a massive help!!
The minibus is only for passengers on PG307. So it won’t leave until everyone who has booked a ticket has got their luggage. The minibus ticket also includes the ferry. You don’t have to pay anything else.
thank you so much you’re a lifesaver
I am planning to book a flight from Chiang Mai to Trat in January next year. My family and I would like to get to Koh Chang. We are arriving at 17:15 in Trat, what is the situation with delays, flight with Bangkok Airlines, ETA 17:15 ? Do they happen often? The last ferry to the island leaves at 6:30 PM.
You definitely won’t have any problem getting to Koh Chang the same evening. If the flight is delayed the last ferry waits for passengers coming from Trat Airport. If there’s a very long delay, which is extremely rare, Bangkok Airways arranges a special ferry for passengers.
That is why, in 20 years of operating, there are no reports online of anyone on PG307 not being able to get to Koh Chang the same day.
Thank You so much for answear! See You in January 2026 :)
I am trying book a flight from Trat to Bangkok on Feb 24th (Mo) – as per information from PG there are no flights the whole week. Booked out or anything I overlooked?
Check availability on Bangkokair.com if there are no flights available it means seats are all booked.
هل أستطيع استئجار سيارة من مطار ترات لمدة 3 أيام والذهاب إلى مدينة ترات؟ وكم السعر التقريبي لليوم الواحد؟
Yes, it is possible to rent a car at the airport. The car rental company’s website is https://www.kohchangaccom.com/en/package/car-rental/
Sawasdee Kha,
We will stay on Koh Kood until the 15th and fly home with PG308 at 17:45. What transport is recommended for the trip Koh Kood-Trat? We travel with two children, 5 years and 9months.
Khob khun kha !
You can buy a combined boat and bus ticket to Trat Airport on Boonsiri Ferry. Or when you arrive at Laem Sok you can take a pick up truck taxi to the airport. Or the other option is to take a private transfer from Laem Sok pier to the airport.
Hi,
I will arrive at Trat Airport with PG305 at 13:45 and would like to travel to Koh Chang. Do you recommend to take the Koh Chang Transport at 14:00 or is it too tight with the time? Will the company wait, if the flight is delayed?
Thank you
Don’t worry. The minibus isn’t going to leave without any passengers. The driver will wait until all passengers have got their luggage and are ready to leave.
I will be traveling back on 13th Dec 2025 from Koh Kood to Trat Airport. My flight is at 5:45 PM. I do not want to book combine tickets for ferry + bus to Trat airport as it is too early deperture at 10:00 AM from Koh Kood and 1:55 PM in the airport. Which means still 5h waiting in the airport.
Instead I am planning to take just ferry to be in Leam Sok Pier around 1:30pm.
Do I find any public transport (shared buses) easly in the pier to get to the airport? How often are such buses? Or will I find easly any grab taxi there? what might be the price?
Thank you for your replay
There’s no public transport to the airport and no Grab taxis in Trat province yet.
So the only option would be to arrange a private transfer from the pier to the airport. You should be able to do that at the boat company’s office near the pier. Or can book online in advance. I guess around 800 – 1200 Baht.
thank you very much for the replay and this information.
How about any buses via Trat city?
Are there any to the city and then to the airport maybe?
Trat is a small airport, only a few flights a day. Very few locals use it. It is mostly tourists visiting the islands. So there aren’t any public buses from Trat town to the airport.
There are shared pick up truck taxis from the pier to Trat town or Trat bus station. But from there you would need to arrange a private transfer to the airport.
We are currently on Koh Mak, and have a flight from Trat airport in 4 days, on the 14.15 flight. What time/which boat/Catamaran do you recommend for us to book? Someone said the 11.30 Speedboat would work well for us, but this seems a little tight with the time? But on the other hand, the catamaran choice would give us a long wait at the airport (if it is on time, which it was definitely not yesterday). Also can whatever choice you recommend be booked online, as that would be preferred (but not decisive). Thank you!
The safe choice is to take a passenger ferry to Laem Sok. If the wind is strong then speedboats might be cancelled. ( Tomorrow some speedboats have already contacted passengers to say they aren’t operating.)
Ok, thank you very much for your quick reply, highly appreciated! By passenger ferry I assume you mean the Boonsiri catamaran? Or are there other options to consider? We didn’t have a great experience with Boonsiri yesterday, but would for sure use them again if that’s our safest option.
Thank you so much! By passenger ferry do you mean Boonsiri or are there other options available from Koh Mak?

bonjour,
je voulais savoir pour la location de voiture à l’aéroport est-il possible de la prendre à l’aéroport de trat et de la restituer à l’aéroport de bangkok
merci
No. That’s not possible. Because there’s only one local car hire company at Trat Airport and they don’t have any offices in Bangkok or Suvarnabhumi Airport.
ok merci beaucoup bonne journée
Finns taxi utanför flygplatsen för transport till hotell i Trat eller kan/bör man boka i förväg och i så fall vad är bäst? Vi är 5 vuxna och en 3 åring som reser tillsammans.
There is a transport company based at the airport or you can take a pick up truck taxi to the ferry pier.
But if you want a door to door service then it’s cheaper to arrange a private transfer in advance.
Hello!
In high-season (Nov/Dec)
Do I understand it correctly that if I’m going to Koh Kood I need to take the early flight landing at Trat 13:40? To be able to reach Koh Kood the same day.
And if I’m going to Koh Chang I can arrive with any of them, to be able to reach the island the same day?
Also, there is generally no need to prebook transport and/or boat to any of the islands, and it’s possible to fix transport/boat at the airport?
Thank you
If you are going to Koh kood the last boat is at 16:00. So you have to take PG305. If you are goin to Koh Chang the last boat is at 18:30 so you can take PG305 or PG307.
You can arrange transport at the airport. But if you are going to Koh Kood, buying a combined bus and boat ticket online is easier
Do you have any recommendations as to where one should buy a combined bus and boat ticket online?
Or any tips?
I get a lot of different options, and don’t know if everything is legit
You can buy bus and boat tickets to Koh Kood or minibus tickets to Koh Chang on https://12go.com/ That is a reliable site to buy bus, boat and train tickets around Asia.
