Transport from Trat Airport to Koh Chang, Koh Mak and Koh Kood.

How to get from Trat Airport to Koh Chang, Koh Mak and Koh Kood.

Songtaew (Pickup truck taxi)

The cheapest method is to take a pick up truck taxi from the airport to the ferry pier.  There will be a couple of songtaews waiting for passengers parked outside the airport terminal building.  They will charge 280 Baht per person to Ao Thammachat pier, this includes the ferry ticket to Koh Chang.  These take up to 12 passengers.

Take the ferry and once on Koh Chang hop on another shared songtaew to your hotel.  These are parked on the main road by the ferry pier.  The cost is from 50 to 200 Baht per person depending on distance to your hotel. 50 Baht to White Sand Beach and 200 baht to Bang Bao Beach, in the far south of the island.

So, using this method, the total cost per person is from 330 – 480 Baht to get from the airport to your hotel.

Shared Minibus To Koh Chang:

This is a more comfortable option compared to the shared pick up truck taxi.  You’ll have a proper seat and be an airconditioned vehicle.  Plus don’t have to worry about taking luggage on and off taxis and the ferry.

Tickets for the shared minibus can be bought online or on arrival at Trat Airport.  Or for visitors who only require the service from Koh Chang to Trat Airport, they can also be bought online or at tour agents and hotels on the island.

One way tickets are 650 Baht per person, including ferry ticket. You will be dropped off at your hotel

For anyone heading straight to Koh Chang, Trat airport is conveniently located approximately 20 minutes drive from Ao Thammachat ferry pier.  Transport between the airport and resorts on the west coast of Koh Chang by either ‘Krungthep Limousine’ or ‘Koh Chang transport’ which operate the services specifically for Bangkok Airways passengers.

The minibuses run in accordance with the flight schedule.  The service drops off and picks up passengers from all resorts on the west coast of the island.  But unfortunately, it doesn’t run down the east coast of Koh Chang. The last drop of location on the east coast is Serenity Resort.

The total travelling time from Trat Airport to your hotel on Koh Chang will be around 2 to 2 and a half hours.  From the airport to the ferry pier is just a 20 minute drive. Ferries run every 45 minutes from 06:30 until 18:30.

The ferry crossing takes around 30 minutes.  During this time you’ll be able to sit upstairs and enjoy the view as you head towards the island. There is also a kiosk selling drinks and snacks on board the boat. Once on Koh Chang, the driving time to your hotel is anywhere from 15 minutes (for visitors staying on White Sand beach) to an hour (for hotels in Bangbao or on Klong Kloi beach.)

If you are buying a return ticket at the airport, you will be given a voucher to hand the driver when he picks you up for the journey back to Trat Airport.  This will also have a phone number of the minibus company, in case you decide to change hotels or flights.

Vouchers for tickets bought in advance online will also have a contact number in case of problems finding the driver and , for tickets to Koh Chang, the approximate pick up time from your hotel on the island

For flights departing from Trat, the minibus will pick passengers up around 4 hours before the flight departure time from their hotel.

Boarding plane at Trat Airport

To Laem Sok pier, Trat (for Koh Kood):

Large passenger boats to Koh Kood, plus a couple of speedboat services, depart from Laem Sok pier, approximately 50Km from Trat airport several times a day.  The boat companies – Boonsiri Catamaran, Koh Kut Express, Koh Kood Princess and Seudamgo all have their offices near the pier.  The offices have small restaurants where passengers can get food and drink while they wait for a boat. The boat tickets include transport from the pier on Koh Kood to your resort.

PG305 now arrives at 13:40. Meaning there isn’t enough time to get to Laem Sok pier for the Boonsiri Ferry at 14:20.  However, passengers will be able to take the 16:00 Seudamgo Ferry (the last boat of the day) at 16:00.  Therefore it is advisable to book boat tickets in advance.   This can done through the 12go.asia site

Passengers on PG301 will get to the pier around 11:15.  In time for either the Koh Kood Express at 12:30 or Koh Kood Princess at 13:00.  (If you want to catch the 10:45 Boonsiri Ferry, you will need to arrange private transport. )

Return minibuses run twice daily from Laem Sok pier at 11:30 and 14:30.  Arriving at the airport around 12:45 and 15:45

To Hotels in Trat Town:

Trat is a sleepy provincial town which many people just pass through on their way elsewhere.  However, it’s a pleasant stop for a night and nowadays many people spend the day there on their way to Koh Kood.

In the past couple of years several new value for money hotels have opened. These include JP Grand Hotel. Trat City Hotel, Toscana Hotel,  Chivapuri Residence plus long time favorites Pop Guesthouse and Rimklong Boutique Hotel.

The shared minibus transport from Trat Airport can drop you off at any of these hotels or other guesthouses in the town centre.

Note that this is a one way service.  Only from Trat Airport to Trat.  Minibuses don’t pick up from hotels in Trat and go to the airport.

Hi, im planing a trip to Koh Kut in low season.
Whe will arrive Trat Airport at 17:15. Sadly we will miss out the last ferry at Laem Sok and need to stay in Trat till the next morning at Trat 101 Hotel. Im very worried if we will be able to find a private driver for transfer to Laem Sok and transfer back to the airport. Are there drivers in Laem Sok that you don’t have to book in advance for the transfer to the airport?

You won’t have any problem. Your hotel can call one of the local pick up[ truck taxi drivers based in Trat town and they will take you to the pier. When you check in just let your hotel know that you will need transport to the pier when you check out. They will arrange it.

Going back to Trat Airport, you can book a combined boat and bus ticket online or at your hotel or any tour agent when you are on Koh Kood. Or arrange a private transfer online in advance.

Hi! Can you please advise the best way for us to get from Koh Mak to Trat Airport for the 14.10-flight on January 15 next year? I have seen some prices for 1000 THB per person, which seems a bit steep. Does that include the boat journey + transport from the pier to the airport? What are our other options, if any? Thank you!

1,000 Baht per person is from Koh Mak. That will include the speedboat ticket which is 550 Baht / person. So the price is fair.

You can do it cheaper by buying the speedboat ticket yourself when you are on Koh Mak and then taking a shared pick up truck taxi from the pier to the airport. The pick up truck taxi will be 200 Baht /person. But they can’t be booked in advance.

Ok, so the 1000 THB-ticket is a combined speedboat ticket + minibus/shuttle from the pier to the airport? And we have to find our own way to the pier on Koh Mak?

Hi as per the last comment I’m planning on taking the PG307 to Trat arriving 17:55 on November 7th. Have any of the boat companies updated there schedule and is there any way to get to Koh Chang the same day?

Schedules haven’t been updated. The first flight for PG307 was today. I heard from some people who got to the ferry in time (I don’t know if all passengers did.) The plane landed a few minutes early, the ferry left around 18:35.

When PG307 starts operating at the end of the month there might be one of the locals who can provide this service. But at the moment no-one has advertised it being available.

Hi! I am arriving to Trat airport November 16th at 12.40. Is it a good idea to arrange my ride to Koh Kood at the airport or is it better to book in advance – do the prices go up or are seats sold out? How about getting to my hotel on Koh Kood, is that included in any of the transfer options?

The best thing to do is to book a ticket for the Boonsiri Ferry which includes a pick up at Trat Airport and transport form the pier on Koh Kood to your hotel. 1,000 baht total.. Book online at: https://boonsiriferry.com/en/timetable.

    Hello,
The last boat from Laem Sok pier to Koh Kood during the low season leaves at 13:30 (15:00 is for the high season from what I read online), is that right? So if I arrive to Trat airport with the flight PG305 (arrival at 12:40), there are no options to go to Koh Kood the same day right?

The last boat is the 14:20 Boonsiri Ferry. This runs year round.

(The speedboat service at 15:00 doesn’t run during the low season.)

So it’s no problem to get to Koh Kood if you are on PG305

Update. The ferry company have confirmed that the last ferry during high season will be at 18:30. It won’t revert to 19:00. Meaning passengers on PG307 probably won’t have enough time to get to Koh Chang the same evening.
